Prenuptial, Postnuptial & Cohabitation Agreements

Prenuptial, Postnuptial, and Cohabitation Agreements

Prenuptial agreements are contracts entered into by a couple contemplating marriage. Married couples who qualify under Minnesota law may enter into postnuptial agreements. Both prenuptial and postnuptial agreements address property issues such as income, assets, and liabilities that may arise in the event of divorce or death and are useful to safeguard non-marital assets. The agreements may also include provisions to preserve assets for children from your prior marriage or relationship. Couples who do not intend to or cannot legally marry may use cohabitation agreements to address these same issues to plan for the end of the relationship, whether by death or by mutual agreement.
